BMES Presentations

September 28, 2013: A trio of REU students – Stephanie Knowlton (advised by David Shreiber), Jose Hawayek-Carrera (advised by Martin Yarmush and David Shreiber), and Daniel Tekverk (advised by Jeffrey Zahn) – traveled to Seattle to present their research at the annual BMES meeting.

Summer Symposium

July 31, 2013: The Cellular Bioengineering REU students celebrated their summer-long research experience at the end-of-summer symposium. Students presented posters that summarized their research and pitched business plans to their fellow REU students from partner programs in Physics, Green Energy Technologies, Structured Organic Particulate Systems, International Environmental Sciences, Pharmacy, and the umbrella Research in Science and Engineering (RiSE) program.

Journal Publication

January 7, 2013 : A paper co-authored by 2011 REU participant Michelle Sempkowski appears in the journal Molecular Pharmaceutics. Michelle worked in the lab of Professor Sofou.

  • All participants must be US Citizens or Permanent Residents.
  • Preference is given to students who have completed their junior year. Outstanding sophomores and first-years may be considered. Graduating seniors are not eligible.
  • Persons from groups traditionally under-represented in science and engineering professions are particularly encouraged to apply.
  • Please note: this program is designed to bring external students to Rutgers for the summer. Therefore, Rutgers students are not eligible.

    • Make sure to check "Cellular Bioengineering" as one of the programs
  • Follow its directions completely.
  • The following must ALL be submitted to form a complete application:
    • The completed application form
    • A transcript
    • Two letters of recommendation (sent separately by letter writers)
  • All applications and supporting materials must be received by March 15, 2014.
  • Review of applications and rolling admissions will commence February 2014
  • Early application is encouraged, as the program is highly competitive.
  • Students will be notified of admission via the Grad Portal and/or email.
